Discovery
A "Discovery," as performed by AppDetectivePro for MySQL is a systematic approach to searching
your network for database and database components. An AppDetectivePro for MySQL discovery
consists of entering a range of IP addresses from which it will locate and
inventory all the database components within that range. As a result of the
Discovery, version numbers and names of each discovered component is also
provided.
Pen Test
A Pen Test is an in-depth security test that performs a series of tests to
identify how an intruder or unauthorized user could gain access to the
system. A Pen Test takes an "outside-in" approach to security - simulating
how an intruder would exploit vulnerabilities to break into your system from
the outside.

Security Audit
A Security Audit is an in-depth examination of the internal configurations
and potential security holes within a database. In comparison to a Pen
Test, a Security Audit takes the "inside-out" approach to security.
Security audits require access to the database as a valid user to verify
internal configuration settings. A security audit also examines how an
unauthorized user can obtain elevated privileges or circumvent security
controls and mechanisms of a database from the inside. AppDetectivePro for MySQL can be
enabled to automatically perform a Security Audit if the appropriate access
is obtained through a Pen Test.
