Winner to be selected by audience poll at Oracle OpenWorld 2008
NEW YORK, August 4, 2008 -
Application Security, Inc., the leading provider of database security solutions for the enterprise, today announced the 2008 Database Security Cinema SMACKDOWN, the company’s first-ever short film contest that will award a first place prize of up to $2,000 to the winner. In addition, the winner will be featured at the 2008 Boston Film Night Retrospective.
Teams or individuals are encouraged to create an original short video of no more than three minutes that mentions the importance of database security. The film does not need to be specifically about database security – but the film must mention the importance of database security somewhere within it. The target audience for the videos is the general public and the primary goal is to entertain.
Entries must be posted and submitted through the Cinema SMACKDOWN contest site on YouTube, accessible via www.appsecinc.com/cinemasmackdown. The deadline for submissions is 5 p.m. (EST) September 8, 2008. Contestants who submit their video prior to August 17, 2008 are eligible for the Early Bird Bonus. The entries will be judged by a team of security experts, including Securosis’ Rich Mogull, Security Incite’s Mike Rothman, Rational Survivability’s Chris Hoff, and Application Security, Inc. employees.
Finalists will be selected based on overall creative vision and entertainment quality. Up to five finalists will be announced and screened at the Application Security, Inc. exhibition booth #3624 West Hall of the Moscone Center at the Oracle OpenWorld 2008 Conference in San Francisco on September 22 to 25, 2008, and the winner will be selected based upon an audience vote. The champion will be crowned on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 4 p.m. at www.appsecinc.com.
“The goal of our Cinema SMACKDOWN is to encourage the creativity of amateur and even professional filmmakers, and in the process, emphasize the importance of database security through a non-traditional medium,” says Thom VanHorn, director of marketing, Application Security, Inc. “We believe that database security should always be foremost in the minds of IT and security professionals, and we hope to continue to drive awareness by requiring the films to mention the topic. That said, our main goal is to have fun, so please visit us at Oracle OpenWorld to cast your vote.”
